Trace

We live thinking we change nothing. Just walking. Just moving. Just passing by. But even if we stand still, we leave a mark. A tire track on wet pavement, a coffee stain on a table, a shadow on the wall. The dust in the air, stirred by a single step.

The question isn’t whether you leave a mark. The question is what kind.

Some marks we want to erase. Muddy boots on a clean floor. An oil stain on the road. Words stuck in our heads. But the strange thing is – by erasing one thing, we leave another. Cleaning dirt leaves cleanliness. Forgetting words creates silence.

Maybe we don’t choose what marks we leave. Maybe we do.

We leave traces even without moving. Even if we don’t want to. Even if we think we blend into the background. Someone will look into your eyes and remember something of their own. Someone will breathe in air that held your breath a moment ago.

The world is a canvas. We are bad at keeping it clean.

Some traces are invisible. A hesitation in a voice. A glance held a second too long. The silence that lingers after someone leaves.

Even absence leaves a mark

The smallest actions leave the biggest echoes

We leave fingerprints on everything we touch. Some things never get wiped clean.

Maybe we don’t choose what marks we leave. Maybe we do.

History is just footprints that refused to disappear.
